Bible Basics
With all of the different beliefs and worship practices Christianity can seem confusing at times. That's why it's important to know what I like to call "Bible basics." If you master the basics, it'll help you to spot false teachings, worship the right way, and live according to God's will.
The first basic fact you should know is that we are Christians. Yes, I'm stating the obvious but remember, this is Bible basics. The fact that we are followers of Christ is often overlooked. What I mean is that we have divided ourselves into so many denominations that we have forgotten we are Christians— nothing more, nothing less. There's only one Lord who left us one Bible and it has only one set of instructions. So why do we have so many different beliefs?
The second basic fact you need to know is that we live in the New Testament. The Old Testament law was fulfilled by Jesus (Matthew 5:17) and he gave us a new covenant (Hebrews 12:24). For instance, getting a divorce for anything other than adultery is no longer permitted. The Bible allows for separation but the person is still married. It also means the “eye for an eye” way of dealing with people has been replaced with forgiving others.
The last Bible basic I'll cover today is that the Holy Spirit gave the apostles all the truth (John 16:13) and they recorded it in the New Testament. That means the Bible is our only source that reveals God’s commandments and guidance. Muslims, Mormons, or any other religious group that began by claiming to have new revelations from God is wrong. Ever heard of the blind leading the blind...study the Bible and learn the truth.
Think about it.
