Following The Crowd
I'm amazed how often people just follow the crowd. Some of you may be thinking "no one tells me what to do." You may not be a follower most of the time but when it comes to worship I bet you are. How can I say that? Do you know why you do all of the things you do in worship? If not, you're a follower.
What you do in worship is very important. Take communion for example, many of us don't participate in communion service every Sunday. Yet, it's a key part of worship as it represents the reason we're Christians. The command to take communion and how often is found in Acts 20:7.
Ministers around the country believe the Bible doesn't state how often to take communion. They believe it can be taken once a month. Lets see if their logic holds. Concede for a moment that communion doesn't have instructions on how often to take it. Did you know that none of the other acts of worship have instructions on how often to do them except the collections (1 Corinthians 16:2)? So the reasoning ministers give for not taking communion weekly would apply to all the acts of worship. We could leave out any one of them or just pick one. For example, we could go to church and sing for the entire service or just say a prayer and go back home. Sounds crazy?...well that's the logic churches use for not taking communion weekly.
Suppose you're at a restaurant and order a burger and fries but the waiter only brings out the fries. Will you be happy? Why do you think God is happy when we only give him some of what he asks? The things God tells us to do in worship are expected every time we worship.
