Are You In Position To Give?
The holiday season is all about giving. We shop for our kids, spouse, girl/boyfriend, parents, coworkers and the list goes on and on. I'm exhausted just thinking about all that running around. After the presents have long been unwrapped, the decorations stuffed back in the attic, and the calendar has rolled to another year— what happens to your spirit of giving?
Do you give to the homeless people you see everyday on your way to work or the struggling family with a home but not enough food? Perhaps you don't come across people in need, but do you donate to the charities you see on your big flat-panel tv?
God has blessed us with so much that we should be doing a better job of helping others. We need to become better stewards of our blessings. We fail in our stewardship because our bills are more than our budgets. When is enough electronics, clothes, or purses enough? Another problem that we have is that we're constantly trying to upgrade. We have a Mazda but we want a Mercedes...we used to eat sandwiches now we eat at steakhouses.
If you "set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth"(Colossians 3:2 ESV), your desire to help others will grow. God expects us to be a blessing to the less fortunate (Hebrews 13:16). He even gave us the perfect example to follow, Jesus. He fed the hungry, healed the sick, and sacrificed his life for people that don't deserve it (all of us). So I ask, once this season of being Santa for family and friends ends, will you change how you manage your blessings so a season of blessing others can begin?
