Resurrection Sunday
Easter is a very special day as we celebrate the resurrection of our king. Churches will be packed with people dressed in the latest spring fashions. You’ll see people who haven’t seen the inside of a church for months and that’s a good thing.
Today can be the start of being a more consistent church goer as God tells us not to forsake coming together in worship (Heb 10:25).
I believe one of the main reasons people don’t take going to church as serious as going to work is they don’t realize that Easter (Resurrection Sunday) is actually every Sunday. To be frank, it starts with church leadership. Most churches don’t even take communion every Sunday. So what’s the big deal about communion? Nothing much... It just symbolizes the very reason we’re Christians!
The bread represents Jesus’ body that was beaten, battered and pierced. The cup represents his blood that was shed as thorns gashed his head and nails pierced his hands. Jesus himself instituted the “Lord’s Supper ” before he was put to death for our sins (Matt 26:26-28). Blessedly, his suffering and excruciating death was not the end of the story as his enemies had hoped. Jesus broke the bondage of sin and death and rose from the depths of Hades.
Indeed, on that third day, that early Sunday morning, our savior got up from the grave with all power and authority. It’s why we follow him. It’s the reason why his disciples came together “upon the first day of the week...to break bread...”(Acts 20:7). It’s why we should also come together upon the first day of the week to break bread. “For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes.”(1 Cor11:26).
