The Key To Success

The Key To Success

It seems everyone wants to hear about the "five steps to success" or "how to win in ten." Most of the mega churches are mega because they preach prosperity. It's great to want success and if you achieve it, that's even better. Unfortunately, one of the problems with prosperity gospel is that it teaches too much prosperity and not enough gospel.

If you go to church 52 times a year and you hear a sermon on how to get God's favor 26 times, you might want to look for another church. Seriously, going to church is about worshipping God not about how to get ahead.

"Ask and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find... "(Matt 7:7) is one of the many verses preachers love to use. However, there's a verse they often leave out of their motivational sermons: "But seek first the kingdom of God...and all these things will be added to you" (Matthew 6:33 ESV). You have to focus on doing God's business before your own.

Think about the last time you talked to someone– was it about Jesus or sports?  What do you discuss more, the gospel or gossip? A church’s main focus should be teaching the gospel and how to live as a Christian. Teaching people to "claim it" or to "speak it into existence" is leading them astray. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but if you think that’s the key to success, you’re wasting your time:

"...when you ask, you don’t get it because your motives are all wrong—you want only what will give you pleasure" (James 4:3 NLT).

Think about it.
