Reality Check
We're all adults here so let's be honest. We know how to fool everyone else, but be honest with yourself. Right now, if Jesus was to come back, what would he find you doing? Today you wouldn't worry. Just a few hours ago you were sitting in church in your fancy clothes, just bursting with Christian values. But what about the other six days? Would he catch you sleeping with someone? Perhaps he might find you in a bar or a club. Would he see you doing things that nobody else knows? We profess to be Christians but are you really ready for Jesus to come back?
Everyone has desires. Our desires lead to temptation. Temptation causes us to act and the result of our actions is sin. We all know what sin leads to—death (James 1:14,15). So "don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think..." (Romans 12:2 NLT).
Take a few minutes and examine if you're living according to God's will or your own. In other words, would Jesus recognize you from the rest of the world? If you're living like everyone else then your life is based on the same lie that has fooled the world—"your life is your own so do what makes you happy." The truth is your life doesn't belong to you. God has bought you with the sacrifice of his only son (1Corinthians 6:19,20). By accepting that basic fact you can truly begin to stop focusing on worldly things. The world will meet your every desire. Whatever your weakness is, the devil will tempt you with it.
We don't like to look at things in black and white but you're either following the world or God. "Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God" (James 4:4,ESV). Who in the world wants to be at odds with God? Apparently, a lot of people.
Think about it.
